Instructors are moving away from one-off writing submissions toward scaffolded checkpoints to curb academic integrity concerns. Turnitin’s new multipart assignment workflow, launched August 6, enables educators to integrate formative feedback directly into the writing process, tracking student evolution from initial outlines to final drafts within a single digital environment.
The platform’s new design replaces the manual workarounds teachers previously used to break down complex assignments. By connecting drafts, bibliographies, and outlines, the tool forces a natural progression that discourages purely AI-generated final products. According to Chief Product Officer Annie Chechitelli, the system removes the administrative burden of managing disjointed tasks while ensuring students apply feedback in real-time.
Data from the 2026 "Time for Class" report by Tyton Partners suggests this pedagogical shift is gaining traction, with 24% of faculty already redesigning assessments to prioritize process over final output. These educators report higher student engagement and fewer integrity issues compared to peers who rely on restrictive bans. The feature is currently live in Turnitin Feedback Studio and Turnitin Clarity, providing visibility into how a student’s work matures before reaching the final stage.
