Georgia Power highlights generation staff during record summer demand
As soaring summer temperatures push electricity demand to its seasonal peak, Georgia Power is spotlighting the 1,100 employees managing the state's diverse energy fleet. Throughout August, the company is observing Generation Appreciation Month to recognize the workers who maintain grid stability for millions of residential and commercial customers.
Behind every reliable light switch and cooling system, thousands of technicians work across hydro, solar, battery storage, natural gas, nuclear, and coal-fired facilities. Rick Anderson, senior vice president and senior production officer, noted that these teams remain the backbone of the state's infrastructure as Georgia’s population and energy needs continue to climb. The commitment of these professionals resulted in a 1.67% equivalent forced outage rate in 2025, a figure ranking among the highest reliability scores in company history and the broader industry.
To meet future demand, the company is collaborating with the Georgia Public Service Commission to expand its energy mix with significant investments in new generation capacity. These projects aim to integrate more solar, battery storage, and natural gas resources, creating a substantial pipeline for employment. The utility plans to hire nearly 250 full-time staff members to support these expanded operations, while the associated construction phase is expected to generate more than 3,000 jobs across the state.
