Frontier Aerospace Secures First Block-Buy Contract for M-Series Engines

A classified U.S. defense program has tapped Frontier Aerospace to supply high-performance attitude control engines, marking the company’s first block-buy contract for its M-Series propulsion line. The deal positions the Thousand Oaks-based firm as a key supplier for national security space operations requiring rapid, flight-qualified hardware.

The contract covers the delivery of 25-lbf engines, which utilize MMH/MON-3 propellants to ensure interoperability across various defense platforms. These engines reached flight-qualified status following a rigorous hot-fire test campaign. Deliveries are scheduled for 2027, with provisions for follow-on orders that could extend production cycles as new platforms enter service.

Frontier Aerospace President Jim McKinnon described the award as a validation of the company's long-term manufacturing investments. By shifting from development to sustained production, the company aims to meet urgent defense requirements for responsive space capabilities. Beyond the M-Series, Frontier continues to support mission-specific needs through its L-Series, designed for extreme cold-environment operations, and its F-Series, which handles high-demand maneuvers for missile defense and lunar applications.
