Data Center Infrastructure Market Projected to Reach $120 Billion by 2030
The global data center physical infrastructure market is set to hit $120 billion by 2030, driven by a 22 percent compound annual growth rate. While AI-fueled expansion has become the industry baseline, the primary challenge has shifted from generating demand to overcoming critical bottlenecks in construction, grid access, and regulatory compliance.
Dell'Oro Group’s latest five-year forecast highlights that nearly 200 gigawatts of capacity will be added through the end of the decade. Research Director Alex Cordovil notes that the industry has moved past the initial AI surge, forcing a reality check regarding delivery capabilities. Constraints such as equipment lead times, labor shortages, and local moratoriums are now the defining risks for developers, rather than a lack of customer interest.
Thermal management systems are emerging as the fastest-growing segment, with liquid cooling transitioning from a niche option to a fundamental requirement for high-density racks. This shift is accompanied by a move toward larger three-phase uninterruptible power supply systems, as AI clusters mandate more robust power architectures. While North America remains the dominant region for capacity growth, the EMEA sector has seen downward revisions due to persistent power availability issues and increasingly difficult permitting environments. As hyperscalers rely more heavily on colocation partners, the procurement landscape is evolving, with specialized AI cloud providers joining the ranks of the market’s fastest-growing consumers.
