UCB Strikes Deal with U.S. Government to Expand Domestic Manufacturing
Brussels-based biopharmaceutical firm UCB has reached an agreement with the U.S. government to balance medicine pricing and bolster domestic production. The pact ensures the company avoids specific pharmaceutical tariffs while committing to a significant expansion of its manufacturing footprint in Georgia.

The agreement marks a strategic shift for UCB as it deepens its long-standing presence in the United States. Under the terms of the deal, the company will adopt a more balanced pricing approach for future medicine launches and participate in the government’s GENEROUS program. In exchange, the company gains regulatory stability, specifically avoiding Section 232 pharmaceutical tariffs on current and future products. CEO Jean-Christophe Tellier described the move as a dual commitment to patient access and the advancement of neurological and immunological research.
Central to this expansion is a major biologics facility currently under construction in Georgia. Representing the largest manufacturing investment in the company’s history, the site is projected to generate $5 billion in economic impact and create over 330 highly skilled jobs. Beyond production, UCB is donating Keppra, a medication recognized by the FDA as an essential medicine, to the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response to strengthen the national supply chain. With nearly 2,000 employees already based in the U.S., the company continues to prioritize its local research and development operations as a core pillar of its global growth strategy.
