IASLC Removes Financial Barriers for Global Thoracic Oncology Experts
The International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer has launched a complimentary full membership program for healthcare professionals in low- and lower-middle-income countries. By eliminating entry costs, the Denver-based organization aims to integrate clinicians and researchers from historically underserved regions into its global network of over 11,000 specialists.
The initiative, approved by the Board of Directors earlier this year, targets World Bank-designated economies where financial constraints often limit professional development. Participants gain full access to the Journal of Thoracic Oncology, educational platforms like LC360, and opportunities to serve on committees or participate in leadership elections.
CEO Karen Kelly emphasized that thoracic oncology requires global collaboration, noting that innovation is not restricted by geographic or economic borders. The program provides the same benefits as standard paid memberships, including discounted entry to the World Conference on Lung Cancer and access to exclusive research grants and mentorship programs. IASLC President Professor Caicun Zhou stated that the organization intends to ensure that every voice in the scientific community has the platform to contribute to improved patient outcomes. Interested applicants can verify their eligibility and submit requests through the association's official portal.
