BioMarin Adds Bristol Myers Squibb Research Chief to Board

Plenge brings extensive experience to the role, having led scientific operations across nine global research sites during his tenure at Bristol Myers Squibb. His background spans several major industry players, including a stint at Merck & Co. and a leadership position at Celgene Corp. prior to its acquisition. His academic pedigree includes an assistant professorship at Harvard Medical School and an associate membership at the Broad Institute, with an M.D. and Ph.D. earned at Case Western Reserve University.

BioMarin CEO Alexander Hardy noted that Plenge’s deep expertise in human genetics will be instrumental as the company shifts its focus toward scaling research capabilities. For his part, Plenge pointed to BioMarin’s thirty-year history of securing approvals for first-in-disease medicines as the primary motivator for his transition to the board. He joins a leadership team currently overseeing nine commercial therapies and a dense clinical-stage portfolio.
