Keith Holland Confronts Mortality in New Single Get on Board
A fever dream of abandoned tracks and spectral conductors, Keith Holland’s new single Get on Board explores the boundary between life and the beyond. The Corowa-based musician crafts a narrative about a passenger who boards a ghostly train, only to be told by a timeless guide that his journey is unfinished.
The track serves as the second release from Holland’s upcoming sophomore album, Castles in the Sand. Departing from the abstract existentialism of his previous single, Life, this composition grounds its message in the haunting imagery of rural Australia’s decaying railway infrastructure. Holland suggests that these remnants of forgotten transit offer a strange comfort, positioning death as a destination that arrives only when the time is right.
Recorded at his home studio in Corowa, the song features a sparse, intimate arrangement where Holland performs most of the instrumentation. Longtime collaborator Greg Stace provides the percussion and oversaw the mixing and mastering at Sydney’s Ralph Street Studios. This release marks a significant milestone in an unconventional career for Holland, who transitioned into full-time music after years in social welfare. Guided by producer Jon Navaho, who helped shape his 2023 debut, Holland continues to refine a sound that bridges the gap between mainstream rock and country. The full album will feature 11 tracks, each maintaining the grounded, narrative-driven perspective established in this latest release.
