Sempra Infrastructure Secures Petrobras as First South American LNG Buyer

The agreement establishes a long-term strategic partnership between the two energy firms, with Sempra Infrastructure CEO Justin Bird noting that Petrobras is the first South American company to join the firm’s LNG customer portfolio. The supply will originate from the Port Arthur Phase 2 facility in Jefferson County, which reached a final investment decision in September 2025.

Port Arthur LNG Phase 2 is designed to feature two liquefaction trains capable of producing approximately 13 Mtpa of LNG. Once fully operational, these additions will double the facility’s total capacity to 26 Mtpa. While Phase 1 is slated to begin commercial operations between 2027 and 2028, the second phase is expected to come online in 2030 and 2031, providing a critical link for U.S. natural gas exports to both Atlantic and Pacific markets.
