Bangkok Art Biennale 2026 to Transform City Landmarks into Art Route
From October 29, 2026, to February 28, 2027, the fifth Bangkok Art Biennale will convert the capital’s temples, museums, and public spaces into a sprawling contemporary art exhibition. Titled "Angels & Mara," the event aims to position Bangkok as a global cultural hub by blending heritage with modern creative expression.
The Biennale explores the philosophical tension between light and temptation, drawing on the city’s identity as Krung Thep—the City of Angels. By installing works across diverse sites like Wat Arun, Wat Pho, and the Bangkok Art and Culture Centre, organizers intend to bridge the gap between historic riverfront communities and modern civic landmarks. This citywide strategy is designed to drive the festival economy while offering visitors a deeper, culture-led perspective on the urban landscape.
Tourism Authority of Thailand Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool stated that the exhibition reflects a shift toward high-value, meaningful travel. Since its inception in 2017, the Biennale has hosted over 300 artists and drawn 3.5 million visitors, cementing its role as a regional anchor for contemporary art. The upcoming edition will feature a multidisciplinary roster of creators, utilizing painting, sculpture, and multimedia to stimulate cross-cultural dialogue across Thailand’s capital.
