Kikkoman Opens $560 Million Production Hub in Wisconsin
Kikkoman Foods, Inc. has officially launched its third U.S. manufacturing facility in Jefferson, Wisconsin. The 240,000-square-foot plant marks a decade-long $560 million investment aimed at meeting rising North American demand for soy sauce and seasonings while anchoring the company’s regional production footprint alongside its existing Walworth and Folsom sites.
The Jefferson facility, situated within the city’s Food & Beverage Innovation Campus, integrates advanced digital manufacturing tools designed to optimize traceability and efficiency. These systems support the company’s environmental targets, which include cutting CO2 emissions by half and reducing water consumption by 30% by 2030. The plant features a flexible layout capable of handling diverse packaging formats, from industrial bulk to retail-ready glass and BPA-free plastic.
Governor Tony Evers attended the opening ceremony, highlighting the project’s role in reinforcing Wisconsin’s manufacturing sector. The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation provided up to $15.5 million in performance-based tax credits to support the creation of over 80 high-paying jobs. Beyond production, Kikkoman continues its history of local investment, pledging $250,000 to Jefferson County for native prairie restoration. With the North American soy sauce market growing at an average annual rate of 6% over the last decade, the new site positions the company to maintain its leading market share while leveraging proximity to key agricultural suppliers.
