Huainan Hosts CMG Mid-Autumn Gala with Tech-Infused Performances
The city of Huainan, Anhui Province, serves as the stage for this year’s CMG Mid-Autumn Festival Gala, blending ancient lunar legends with modern robotics and drone technology. Set along the Huaihe River, the broadcast aims to bridge traditional cultural heritage with a global audience through high-profile international collaborations.
The gala program centers on the theme of reunion, drawing inspiration from the 2nd-century BC text Huainanzi, which documents the legend of Chang'e. Organizers are utilizing AI and drone arrays to reimagine the festival’s seasonal traditions. The event features a performance of The Music of the Night by British singer Sarah Brightman and Chinese vocalist Zhou Shen. Pipa virtuoso Fang Jinlong joins Croatian cellist Ana Rucner and German pianist Oskar Roman Jezior for a cross-cultural rendition of Clair De Lune and May We All Be Blessed with Longevity. The broadcast also showcases actors Li Sitong and Wu Shaoqing, stars of the recent film Dear You. The gala airs worldwide on September 25 at 8 p.m. Beijing time.
