HEVO Joins BMW and ORNL to Test Next-Gen Wireless Charging
Brooklyn-based HEVO is collaborating with Oak Ridge National Laboratory and BMW to refine polyphase wireless charging systems. By integrating its Rezonant hardware and Journey software expertise into the partnership, the firm aims to bolster power density and efficiency for the next generation of electric and autonomous vehicles.
The evaluation program centers on bench testing that pits HEVO’s circular coil topologies against ORNL’s proprietary polyphase coil technology. Industry interest in polyphase systems has surged due to their potential to optimize packaging and power performance, both critical factors for future autonomous fleets and automated charging infrastructure.
Jeremy McCool, founder and CEO of HEVO, stated that the company’s involvement leverages its role as an ORNL technology licensee to translate commercial deployment experience into actionable technical analysis. The project builds on existing research conducted by ORNL and BMW, aiming to validate architectures capable of supporting complex, high-utilization electric mobility platforms.
