Rutika Mehta Joins NYU Langone to Lead Upper GI Cancer Program

Dr. Mehta arrives from Weill Cornell Medicine, bringing extensive experience in building clinical trial portfolios and fostering collaboration across oncology disciplines. At Perlmutter, she will coordinate with Noah A. Cohen, the section chief of complex GI surgical oncology, to integrate molecular profiling and biomarker-driven therapies into routine patient care. Her approach centers on personalizing treatment plans through detailed tumor biology analysis and advanced blood testing.

Beyond her clinical duties, Dr. Mehta serves on the National Cancer Institute's Upper GI Task Force, influencing national research strategies. Her background includes developing targeted therapies and cellular treatments, as well as active involvement in advocacy groups like Debbie’s Dream Foundation. Manuel Hidalgo Medina, co-director of the GI Cancer Center, noted that her appointment is intended to bolster the center's capacity to deliver cutting-edge interventions as the department scales its operations.
