Alibaba Faces Securities Class Action Over Alleged AI Security Risks

Investors who held Alibaba Group Holding Limited stock between June 2025 and June 2026 are being urged to join a class action lawsuit. The firm Schall, Brown & Schwartz LLP claims the company misled shareholders regarding its ties to the Chinese government and involvement in sensitive AI operations.

The legal action centers on allegations that Alibaba violated the Securities Exchange Act by failing to disclose critical operational risks. According to the complaint, the company allegedly obscured its direct or indirect control by the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information. Plaintiffs argue this oversight left shareholders vulnerable to classification risks under the National Defense Authorization Act, which could label Alibaba a Chinese military company.

Beyond government ties, the suit highlights claims that the firm was engaged in actual distillation attacks on major Western AI models, rather than theoretical research. Shareholders who suffered losses during the class period have until October 5, 2026, to seek lead plaintiff status. Attorneys Brian Schall and David Schwartz are overseeing the inquiry, noting that while the class has not yet been formally certified, individual investors retain the right to pursue recovery for damages incurred when the market adjusted to these disclosures.
