UK IT Professionals Face Mounting Stress from AI-Driven Cyber Threats
Nearly 90% of IT and security professionals in the UK report significant workplace stress tied to security risks, creating a paradox where AI-boosted productivity is being overshadowed by the fear of sophisticated cyberattacks. Despite widespread adoption of new tools, most organizations remain ill-equipped to handle the resulting defensive challenges.

The survey by Object First, which polled 300 UK industry experts, highlights a workforce reaching a breaking point. While 91% of respondents credit artificial intelligence with improved daily output, 64% point to AI-powered threats as a primary driver of their professional anxiety. This disconnect is compounded by a lack of confidence in internal recovery capabilities; only 31% believe their employers are prepared to mitigate these evolving digital dangers.
Operational strain is manifesting in high turnover risk, with 53% of professionals admitting they have considered leaving their roles due to mounting pressure. The human toll is significant, as 55% of staff claim that stress directly degrades their job performance, while 51% report negative impacts on their mental health. Many feel unfairly burdened, with 84% fearing they will be personally blamed for security or compliance failures.
To address this volatility, industry experts suggest shifting toward simplified, immutable backup solutions that remove the complexity of data recovery. Pete Hannah, Vice President of Western Sales at Object First, emphasizes that while technology is critical, the focus must remain on supporting the teams behind the screen. Alongside technical safeguards, firms like Object First are partnering with organizations such as Cybermindz to provide burnout-mitigation protocols, acknowledging that IT resilience is as much about human endurance as it is about automated defense.
