Huawei Outlines WAN Evolution for the Agentic AI Era
As AI workloads shift from human-centric tasks to agent-driven workflows, the architecture of wide area networks faces a critical breaking point. At the HUAWEI CONNECT 2026 summit in Shanghai, industry experts gathered to address the urgent need for a deterministic, intelligent connectivity foundation capable of managing massive, unpredictable uplink traffic.

GlobalData’s Dustin Kehoe emphasized that legacy infrastructure is ill-equipped to handle the explosive data flows required by modern AI. Instead, the industry must pivot toward distributed, edge-enabled frameworks that prioritize low latency and granular performance guarantees. This architectural shift is no longer optional for enterprises looking to scale AI deployment.
Huawei’s Ado noted that the transition to agentic AI requires a fundamental rethink of connectivity, moving away from traditional downlink-heavy models. To bridge this gap, Huawei introduced its Stellar AI Integrated Data WAN Solution, which integrates ultra-broadband, multi-dimensional awareness, and autonomous self-healing capabilities. Complementing this, Nick Liu advocated for a national fiber-optic backbone utilizing 400G/800G technologies and OTN-QKD integration to ensure long-term network resilience.
The findings were formalized in the newly released "Intelligent WAN White Paper in AI Era," developed in collaboration with GlobalData. The document provides a roadmap for organizations to modernize their backbone networks, focusing on proactive security and end-to-end encryption to support the next generation of AI-native enterprise operations.
