UPG Enterprises Files for Chapter 11 to Facilitate Asset Sales

Facing a shifting industrial landscape, Oak Brook-based UPG Enterprises LLC has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the Northern District of Illinois. The move serves as a strategic pivot intended to finalize the sale of its U.S. assets while securing $6.1 million in fresh financing to maintain operations.

The company, which manages a diverse portfolio across steel processing, manufacturing, and logistics, expects the court-supervised process to attract competitive bids. Chief Restructuring Officer John Sordillo noted that the filing aims to maximize stakeholder value through going-concern sales, ensuring these assets find new ownership capable of further investment. To support this transition, UPG has secured debtor-in-possession financing from Firehorse Capital LLC, pending court approval.

Operations at UPG’s international branches and its UPG Electrical subsidiary remain untouched by the proceedings. Meanwhile, the company has submitted "First Day" motions to ensure employees receive wages and benefits without interruption. Management intends to conclude the sale process within the next 60 days, utilizing Section 363 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code to solicit the highest offers for its North American footprint.
