McDonald’s Tests Third-Party Advertising in Drive-Thru Lanes
Hungry customers waiting for their orders at select McDonald’s drive-thrus are now encountering more than just menu items. The fast-food giant has launched a pilot program featuring digital advertisements from outside brands, appearing on menu boards immediately after a transaction is processed at company-owned locations.

This shift aims to transform the idle time spent waiting for food into a new revenue stream. While the company characterizes the initiative as a way to provide content that is helpful or relevant to patrons, the move arrives as the corporation grapples with declining sales across its U.S. markets.
Beyond external advertising, the brand continues to integrate automated technology into the customer experience. Alongside these digital displays, McDonald’s is advancing its ArchIQ platform, an AI-powered assistant designed to identify repeat visitors and recall past order preferences. By blending personalized data with a new advertising network, the company is aggressively redesigning the traditional drive-thru interface to maximize both efficiency and commercial reach.
