XPENG Shifts Focus to Mass-Producing Humanoid Robots

The company’s strategy hinges on integrating its existing automotive expertise with a new Physical AI architecture. At the September 22 conference, executives and suppliers reviewed the transition from autonomous movement to natural interaction, showcasing the IRON robot’s ability to handle multilingual tasks and dynamic identity memory. While industry observers acknowledge that humanoid robotics remains in its early industrial phase, the company has finalized designation agreements with key component suppliers to ensure consistency and cost-efficiency at scale.

He Xiaopeng, Chairman and CEO, framed the project as a long-term undertaking that exceeds the complexity of the automotive sector. He emphasized that the company is bypassing remote-controlled models in favor of general-purpose units capable of adapting to diverse environments. Following initial deployments in its own retail stores and campuses, XPENG plans a full commercial market launch across domestic and international regions by 2027.
