IBM Bridges Swift Blockchain and On-Premises Control for Digital Assets
IBM is expanding its Digital Asset Haven platform, allowing financial institutions to connect directly to Swift’s blockchain-based shared ledger. The update includes a new on-premises deployment option for IBM Z and LinuxONE, enabling banks to manage tokenized assets entirely within their own data centers rather than relying on public cloud infrastructure.

The integration allows institutions to use the ISO 20022 messaging standard to instruct tokenized deposit transactions across Swift’s ledger. By leveraging existing payment formats, banks can participate in digital asset networks without the need for complex, blockchain-specific workflows. This capability, developed alongside 40 global financial institutions, aims to facilitate 24/7 asset movement while maintaining established compliance processes.
On-Premises Security and Control
For organizations requiring strict data sovereignty, the new on-premises beta deployment runs exclusively on IBM Z and LinuxONE hardware. This configuration isolates production, test, and development environments using hardware-backed security, including embedded Crypto Express HSMs. The system supports high-availability targets of 99.999999% and provides auditable key generation for regulatory reporting. According to Tom McPherson, General Manager of IBM Z and LinuxONE, the initiative addresses the industry’s need to move traditional and tokenized assets side-by-side without sacrificing the resiliency required for critical financial operations.
