Michel Escoffier Inducts Five Vancouver Culinary Leaders into Elite Society
Michel Escoffier, great-grandson of the legendary father of modern French cuisine, traveled to Vancouver on September 18 to personally induct five local culinary figures into Les Disciples Escoffier International. The ceremony at the Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts recognized leaders who embody the society's core values of mentorship and professional discipline.
The invitation-only society, founded in 1954, serves to preserve the legacy of Auguste Escoffier by uniting global hospitality professionals under the principles of generosity and technical rigor. The Vancouver event saw the induction of Yves Potvin, Sylvia Potvin, Katsuhito Inoue, Alex Chen, and Ben Kiely, all of whom have significantly shaped the regional food landscape. The new members received sashes denoting their specific fields, with red signifying professional chefs and blue representing hospitality and media experts.
The ceremony was hosted by Michel Escoffier alongside Kirk T. Bachmann, provost of the Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts, and PICAchef general manager Diego Do Livramento. This induction marks a significant moment for the Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts, which joined the Escoffier family of educators earlier this year. With this latest expansion, the society now counts roughly 10,000 members across 45 international delegations, maintaining its status as one of the most exclusive honors for culinary professionals worldwide.
