Gunnar Optiks Targets Digital Eye Strain With New Ojai Recovery Wearable

After two decades of manufacturing glasses to mitigate digital eye strain, Gunnar Optiks is shifting its focus from the hours spent in front of a monitor to the minutes spent away from one. The company has officially launched the Ojai Vision Recovery System, a $99 wearable designed for post-screen relaxation.

The Ojai system functions as a full-blackout headset that utilizes a combination of rhythmic air compression, heat set to 43°C, and vibration to alleviate tension around the eyes. Users can toggle between five distinct recovery modes while utilizing built-in Bluetooth audio for guided meditation or music. The device is foldable, rechargeable, and intended to serve as a 10-minute ritual for those looking to disconnect at the end of a workday.

In a pilot study conducted by the company, 94% of participants reported increased physical relaxation after a session, while 89% noted that their eyes felt significantly more relaxed. Average discomfort ratings—covering factors like dryness, irritation, and temple tension—dropped by 56% immediately following use. CEO Joe Croft noted that the product is intended to integrate into daily habits rather than act as a standalone gadget. The launch coincides with the company's new "Perform Hard. Recover Smart." marketing campaign, which encourages users to reclaim 10 minutes of screen-free time. The Ojai system is available effective immediately through the company's website and select retail partners.
