Qfin Holdings Faces Securities Lawsuit Over Unexpected Tax Charges
A federal securities class action has been filed against Qfin Holdings following a 76.8% plunge in quarterly net income, triggered by a surprise RMB 500 million tax expense. The litigation claims the company misled investors regarding its tax positions throughout the first half of 2026.
The lawsuit, filed in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York, targets Qfin’s financial disclosures between March 18 and August 25, 2026. Plaintiffs allege that the China-based credit technology firm failed to provide an accurate picture of its business stability, specifically regarding how it managed tax exposure under various PRC preferential regimes. While the company’s 2025 annual report claimed no significant unrecognized uncertain tax positions, the subsequent second-quarter results revealed a massive earnings hit. This adjustment, attributed to a change in tax treatment by authorities, sent Qfin’s American depositary shares tumbling nearly 19% in a single trading session. Investors who acquired securities during the class period have until November 27, 2026, to apply for lead plaintiff status. The case, spearheaded by Levi & Korsinsky LLP, centers on whether the company’s public assurances masked material risks that ultimately materialized as significant losses for shareholders.
