Coral Beach Resort Sharjah Adopts On-Site Food Waste Digestion
The Coral Beach Resort Sharjah has become the first hotel in the emirate to integrate an LFC biodigester into its waste management system. By utilizing aerobic microorganisms to break down organic scraps on-site, the property aims to significantly reduce the environmental footprint generated by its four distinct restaurants.

This installation aligns with the Sharjah Commerce & Tourism Development Authority's Food Waste Carbon Pilot Implementation, a regional initiative designed to mitigate the hospitality sector's impact on local landfills. The system processes waste from buffet operations and food preparation, allowing the resort to bypass traditional collection methods while streamlining daily kitchen logistics.
Iftikhar Hamdani, the resort’s area general manager, emphasized that the technology represents a shift in operational strategy rather than a simple equipment upgrade. The move complements the hotel's existing sustainability portfolio, which already includes an on-site water bottling plant and the Coralganic garden. These resource conservation efforts previously secured the resort the Sustain Sharjah Award during the 2025 International Travel & Tourism Forum. By digesting food waste directly, the four-star property continues to scale its commitment to reducing carbon emissions while maintaining service standards for its beachfront guests.
