This new expression represents a technical evolution of the brand’s wood finishing philosophy, which first gained prominence with the Maker’s Mark 46 release. For Expedition 01, the distillery independently finished whiskies using three distinct wood types—Japanese Mizunara, French oak, and American white oak—before blending them into a single final product. According to managing director Rob Samuels, the project treats oak as a primary ingredient rather than a simple storage vessel, aiming to unlock specific flavor profiles through the unique characteristics of each wood species.

The resulting blend balances the floral and umami notes of Japanese Mizunara with the vanilla sweetness of American oak and the spice-heavy profile of French oak. Bottled at 47.5% ABV, the 1L release is positioned as a premium, story-driven experience for the global market. It is currently available at Avolta retail locations in hubs including New York, London, Istanbul, Perth, and Bengaluru for a suggested price of $84.99.
