St. Luke’s Boise Medical Center Earns GammaTile Center of Excellence Status
St. Luke’s Boise Medical Center has joined the GammaTile Center of Excellence Program, a designation highlighting clinical proficiency in brain tumor treatment. The Tempe-based GT Medical Technologies awarded the status to the Idaho facility following a rigorous review of their surgical expertise and adherence to patient care standards.
The recognition acknowledges a multidisciplinary team led by neurosurgeons Edward A. Duckworth, David P. Bray, Derek L. Martinez, and Benjamin G. McGahan, alongside radiation oncologists Cameron S. Thorpe, Tonya L. Kuhn, Stephen C. Smith, and Timothy E. Sawyer, with medical physicist Amy Geyer. To qualify for this designation, the center met strict clinical benchmarks, including annual case minimums and ongoing educational requirements for staff involved in the procedure.
GammaTile therapy distinguishes itself by providing radiation directly at the tumor site during the removal surgery. By eliminating the typical delay between operation and radiation, the approach targets cancer cells immediately, aiming to curb regrowth. The technology is FDA-cleared for both newly diagnosed malignant and recurrent brain tumors, with adoption now spanning more than 150 healthcare institutions across the United States.
