Montefiore Einstein Unveils $9.68 Million Upgrade to Weiler Hospital

A $9.68 million state-funded renovation has transformed the labor and delivery suite at Jack D. Weiler Hospital in the Bronx. The project, supported by the New York Statewide Health Care Facility Transformation Program, modernizes maternal care infrastructure while maintaining continuous service for the region’s highest-risk pregnancies.

The sixth-floor Mother Baby Unit at 1825 Eastchester Road now features a reconfigured workflow and updated clinical spaces. Key improvements include a modernized maternal surgical suite with a dedicated four-bay C-Section Post-Anesthesia Care Unit, three upgraded delivery operating rooms, and a triage area expanded to include seven bays. Beyond physical construction, the hospital has integrated remote monitoring tools and enhanced environmental lighting to prioritize patient comfort.

This infrastructure investment coincides with a significant expansion of the department’s clinical capacity. Under the leadership of Dr. Mark H. Einstein, who assumed his role as department chair in 2024, the hospital has onboarded 26 new specialists. These hires bolster expertise in critical care obstetrics, adolescent medicine, and onco-fertility. The team has also launched specialized services, including universal depression screening and a postpartum outpatient clinic for high-risk patients. While five phases of the renovation are finished, the final stage—covering the remaining two delivery rooms and elevator upgrades—is scheduled for completion in early 2027.
