Microsoft Patches Surface Laptop Ultra Stability and Display Flaws
Three weeks after launch, Microsoft has deployed a critical firmware update for the Surface Laptop Ultra to address persistent hardware instability. The October 22 release targets specific defects, including erratic screen flickering, unexpected system restarts, and sluggish boot times that hindered the device’s performance out of the box.

The update arrives following reports of significant user frustration, including accounts of speaker interference described as sounding like firecrackers. While the official changelog highlights the resolution of major display and power-cycling bugs, it also mentions general performance improvements without providing granular technical details. Users should note that the firmware installation process is permanent; once applied, the update cannot be reverted to a previous state.
Microsoft notes that the rollout is staggered, meaning the update may not appear on all devices simultaneously. To finalize the installation, the company advises users to manually trigger a system restart via the Power menu. Those who prefer to bypass the automatic delivery schedule can access the software directly through the official Microsoft driver and firmware portal.
