Mosseri acknowledged that the friction surrounding AI extends well beyond younger generations, noting that frustration is becoming a defining feature of the current technological landscape. While he categorized some of this backlash as unfounded, he conceded that industry players will face significant challenges as the sentiment hardens. The conversation also touched on the platform's struggle to distinguish meaningful creations from what the industry has dubbed AI slop.

Addressing the technical hurdles of content moderation, Mosseri admitted that Instagram’s current ranking algorithms likely favor non-AI content over machine-generated material. Although the platform has begun mandating labels for AI-generated accounts to improve transparency, the persistent issue of celebrity deepfakes remains difficult to contain. Despite mounting pressure to clean up the feed, Mosseri maintains that a total ban on AI content is not a practical solution for the company.
