James O'Keefe Charged After Failed Voter Fraud Stunt in Minnesota

The pair, members of the Citizen Justice League, attempted to film a sting operation to prove election vulnerability but instead triggered a criminal investigation into their own conduct.

The Hennepin County Attorney's Office confirmed that O’Keefe, 42, and Higby, 26, are charged with unlawful voting and identity theft. Prosecutors state the pair visited multiple precincts, providing election judges with the names of registered voters without consent. While neither man successfully cast a ballot, the act of misrepresenting their identities to apply for one constitutes a felony under Minnesota law.

County Attorney Mary Moriarty emphasized that the integrity of elections remains a priority, noting that the defendants used the names of both deceased residents and active voters in their filmed sequences. Secretary of State Steve Simon condemned the operation, stating that deceptive tactics against election workers will not be tolerated. Higby has denied the allegations, characterizing the prosecution as "lawfare," while O’Keefe has yet to issue a formal response. The incident highlights the irony of a career built on claims of widespread electoral fraud resulting in legal repercussions for the activist himself.
