London Police Arrest Hundreds for Supporting Banned Pro-Palestine Group
A demonstration outside the US Embassy in London descended into mass arrests Saturday as police detained 325 people for expressing support for the banned group Palestine Action. While activists displaying banners in favor of the organization were taken into custody, authorities permitted other demonstrators to hold signs advocating for genocide.

Metropolitan Police officers apprehended 320 individuals under the Terrorism Act 2000, citing their public support for a proscribed organization. Many of those detained carried placards stating, "I oppose genocide, I support Palestine Action." Footage circulating on social media captured a starkly different reception for a separate demonstrator, who was allowed to display a sign reading, "I support genocide, I oppose Palestine Action," without police intervention.
Among the detainees was 94-year-old human rights lawyer Margaret Owen, whose arrest drew sharp condemnation from Green Party leader Zack Polanski. The incident marks the largest mass apprehension of Palestine Action supporters since Prime Minister Andy Burnham assumed office. The group currently faces a government-imposed ban that is set to be challenged before the UK Supreme Court this week. Critics, including Trita Parsi of the Quincy Institute, have labeled the application of these laws Kafkaesque, arguing that the government is utilizing counter-terrorism legislation to suppress political dissent and appease foreign interests.
