Ian Marx Named Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year in New Jersey
Ian S. Marx, a shareholder at Greenberg Traurig’s New Jersey office, received the Pro Bono Lawyer of the Year distinction at the 2026 New Jersey Legal Awards. The honor recognizes his extensive advocacy for victims of domestic violence, political refugees, and individuals impacted by wrongful convictions throughout the previous year.

Marx, who serves in the firm’s Litigation Practice, has dedicated hundreds of hours to high-impact pro bono efforts, collaborating with organizations such as The Innocence Project, Human Rights Watch, and the American Civil Liberties Union of New Jersey. His work focuses heavily on reforming witness identification testimony to prevent wrongful convictions, a cause he championed through successful amicus curiae arguments in the New Jersey Supreme Court cases State v. Watson and State v. Washington.
Reflecting on his career path, Marx noted that his commitment to public service stems from a desire to leverage the influence of private practice to aid the underserved. He credits the influence of New Jersey Supreme Court Chief Justice Stuart Rabner for reinforcing the professional obligation to balance financial success with community advocacy. Alongside Marx, the firm saw further recognition as Clarissa A. Gomez was named a New Leader of the Bar, and Raquel S. Lord was selected as a finalist for the Best Mentor award.
