Bluetooth 7.0 Boosts Data Speeds to 7.5 Mbps
The Bluetooth Special Interest Group has officially adopted High Data Throughput as an optional feature within the Core 7.0 specification. By pushing maximum bit rates from 2 Mbps to 7.5 Mbps, the update promises to overhaul wireless audio quality and extend battery performance across a wide array of consumer electronics.

This technical leap enables high-resolution audio streaming, spatial sound, and multi-channel surround setups without the need for proprietary workarounds. While audio remains the primary focus, the efficiency gains extend to wearable technology and smart home devices. By transferring larger packets of data in shorter bursts, the Bluetooth radio spends less time active, which preserves battery life for health-tracking smartwatches and connected fitness sensors.
Beyond basic peripherals, the technology targets the emerging market of personal AI hardware and spatial computing devices. Faster data handoffs allow these gadgets to offload intensive processing to smartphones, enabling smaller, lighter physical designs. Firmware updates, traditionally a slow and disruptive process for smart home accessories, will also see significant speed improvements. Neville Meijers, CEO of the Bluetooth SIG, noted that the upgrade creates a foundation for the next generation of wireless innovation, with the first compatible hardware expected to reach the consumer market in 2027.
