Camp Snap launches smaller CS-8 Mini camcorder for kids

A smaller grip and lower video resolution distinguish Camp Snap’s new CS-8 Mini from the original CS-8: the kid-focused camera is less than half its predecessor’s size and records at up to 2.7K rather than 4K. It retains the larger model’s retro, screen-free design.

The Mini is available through Camp Snap’s online store and Target for $149.99. It comes in bright blue, orange, pink and green. Like the original, it has no screen, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or companion app.

Footage is saved to an included 4GB microSD card. Pressing the trigger-style recording button starts a new clip each time. Users can transfer videos with a card reader or connect the camera directly to another device via USB-C.

The CS-8 Mini uses a 1/2.7-inch sensor and offers four aspect ratios: 16:9 widescreen, 9:16 vertical, 1:1 square and 4:3, which Camp Snap describes as evoking a retro home-movie look. It also has up to 8x digital zoom and five film-style filters: standard, two vintage looks, an analog effect with pronounced grain and flicker, and black and white. The design is intended to be easier for children to hold, while retaining several recording options from the larger CS-8.
