Leaked dummy reveals an unusually wide iPhone Fold design
A freshly surfaced dummy unit of Apple’s rumored foldable iPhone offers a glimpse into the company’s potential hardware direction, showcasing a form factor significantly wider than existing market competitors. The images, shared by reliable industry leaker Sonny Dickson, depict a device that challenges the standard proportions of modern book-style foldables.

The dummy unit features a distinct pill-shaped camera island housing two rear lenses, stretching across two-thirds of the device's back panel. While the interior remains opaque regarding sensor placement or display bezels, the exterior silhouette suggests Apple is leaning toward a squat, broad profile reminiscent of the original Google Pixel Fold. This design choice aligns with broader industry whispers that Samsung is also exploring a similar 'Wide Fold' architecture, signaling a potential shift in foldable ergonomics.
However, the path to market remains fraught with technical hurdles. Reports from Nikkei Asia indicate that Apple is grappling with persistent engineering challenges that may jeopardize the anticipated September release. While the company initially aimed to debut the foldable alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max, internal sources suggest that supply chain constraints and unresolved design issues are forcing a reassessment of the timeline. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg has corroborated these concerns, noting that even a simultaneous announcement might not prevent a staggered retail launch, pushing the actual availability of the device months behind its non-folding counterparts.
