Apple Intelligence brings smart search to HomeKit cameras
Apple is integrating its proprietary AI into the HomeKit Secure Video ecosystem, enabling automated footage analysis and natural language search for connected cameras. Announced at WWDC, the update allows users to locate specific events, such as package deliveries, by querying their security feeds with simple, everyday language.

The upcoming iOS 18 update—referred to as iOS 27 in internal documentation—will transform how the Home app processes surveillance data. By stitching together relevant clips across multiple devices, the system creates a cohesive narrative of home activity and highlights noteworthy moments directly on the search page. This functionality brings Apple into direct competition with established AI-driven security features currently offered by Amazon’s Ring and Google’s Nest.
To support more granular analysis, Apple is increasing the maximum resolution for HomeKit Secure Video to 4K, a significant jump from the previous 1080p limitation. Access to these intelligence features remains tied to an active iCloud Plus subscription. Beyond the AI overhaul, the Home app will now group multiple alerts from a single device into a dynamic, updating notification to reduce clutter. While these upgrades suggest a strategic shift toward dedicated hardware, Apple has yet to confirm whether the platform will integrate Matter support for cameras.
