Apple unveils iOS 27 with focus on Siri AI and Liquid Glass control

The centerpiece of the update is "Siri AI," a conversational evolution of the company's voice assistant. Responses now emerge from the Dynamic Island, featuring a customizable pace and expressivity. A dedicated Siri app stores conversation histories synced via iCloud, while a new camera mode allows the assistant to identify and catalog real-world objects. Notably, these features will launch in English as a beta later this year, though Apple confirmed the suite will remain unavailable in the European Union.

Design tweaks include an opacity slider for Liquid Glass, the aesthetic overhaul introduced in the previous version that previously drew criticism for legibility issues. Beyond interface adjustments, the update embeds intelligence into core apps. Safari gains automated tab management, the Passwords app offers one-tap account updates, and the phone app introduces "Call Context" to surface relevant data during active calls. While the company aims to move past previous development delays and the integration of Google’s Gemini, the success of iOS 27 hinges on whether this new architecture can finally deliver on the promises first made at WWDC 2024.
