Rapidus and UK Semiconductor Centre Forge Strategic Manufacturing Pact
Following a high-level summit between Prime Ministers Sanae Takaichi and Keir Starmer in London, Japan’s Rapidus Corporation has formalized a partnership with the UK Semiconductor Centre. The agreement aims to integrate British design expertise with Japanese manufacturing capacity to secure future supply chains for advanced logic semiconductors.

The collaboration, signed on June 14, 2026, focuses on establishing international technical exchanges as Rapidus prepares for the mass production of 2nm logic chips, currently slated for 2027. By aligning with the UK’s AI Hardware Plan, the deal provides British firms with a direct route to advanced manufacturing capabilities, while Rapidus strengthens its global footprint through institutional alliances.
Andy McLean, CEO of the UK Semiconductor Centre, noted that the agreement bridges complementary strengths between the two nations, essential for maintaining competitiveness in an increasingly volatile global market. Dr. Atsuyoshi Koike, CEO of Rapidus, emphasized that the partnership reflects a mutual commitment to long-term industrial development. Both entities will now initiate a structured phase of information sharing, prioritizing the acceleration of commercialization for next-generation hardware.
