Pennsylvania Education Units Partner to Bridge Classroom and Career

Two Pennsylvania educational hubs, Intermediate Unit 1 and Luzerne Intermediate Unit 18, have entered an expanded partnership with Pathway2Careers to integrate workforce-aligned math curricula into local school districts. The collaboration aims to scale career-connected learning across the state by leveraging regional support structures to bridge the gap between academics and professional opportunities.

The agreement tasks IU1 and IU18 with serving as Educational Alliance Partners for the upcoming school year. By providing professional development and implementation resources, these agencies intend to align classroom instruction with regional labor market demands. IU1, which operates in southwestern Pennsylvania, and IU18, covering the northeastern region, will create a cross-state framework designed to make math engagement more relevant for students.

Dr. Donald W. Martin of IU1 and Dr. Anthony Grieco of IU18 emphasized that the initiative provides districts with the tools necessary to foster student preparation for future careers. For Pathway2Careers, the move serves as a pilot for a broader strategy involving the Association of Educational Service Agencies. CEO Dr. Joseph Goins noted that by utilizing regional education agencies, the organization can scale research-based solutions that remain adaptable to the specific needs of local communities.
