Ohio-Made Nitrile Gloves Gain Federal Traction
Domestic nitrile production is moving from startup concept to federal supply chain staple as U.S. Medical Glove Company (USMGC) gains high-level endorsements. Based in Chillicothe, Ohio, the firm is currently leveraging a massive 5-million-square-foot facility to challenge the market dominance of overseas manufacturers in China and Malaysia.

Industry experts and government officials are championing the Chillicothe plant, which operates through a strategic partnership with U.S. Paper Mill. Bill Williams, a veteran advisor to the Department of Health and Human Services, recently lauded the facility’s engineering, noting that its production quality and film strength surpass current international offerings. The site, formerly occupied by Pixelle Specialty Solutions, currently employs over 170 people and maintains significant surge capacity to meet potential federal procurement demands.
The push for domestic manufacturing has drawn support from various sectors, including the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Army. Andrew Platt, president of Blue Tactical, stated that the availability of American-made components allows for greater supply chain independence. This sentiment is echoed by state and federal leaders, including Florida State Representative Chip LaMarca, who emphasized the plant's readiness to handle large-scale orders. Following recognition from the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response for their role in pandemic-era logistics, USMGC continues to position itself as a central player in the effort to reclaim U.S. leadership in medical protective equipment.
