Google Wear OS 7 Brings Live Updates and Extended Battery Life

Pixel Watch owners are gaining a 10 percent boost in battery efficiency alongside a new Live Updates feature that mirrors real-time events from Android phones directly to the wrist. Google’s latest OS rollout targets the Pixel Watch 2, 3, and 4, streamlining how users interact with sports scores and delivery status updates.

The update introduces deeper integration with Gemini Intelligence, though these features are slated for a broader release later this year. Once active, users can leverage natural language prompts to generate custom widgets and automate multi-step tasks, such as restaurant reservations, via the watch interface. The system also gains 'neural expressive' design cues and Personal Intelligence, which synthesizes data across connected Google applications to refine proactive suggestions.

Hardware interaction sees significant improvements through a new media output switcher, allowing audio to jump between headphones and Nest speakers seamlessly. Furthermore, the platform now supports direct connectivity with smart glasses, enabling users to preview photos on their watch screen. For third-party developers, a new widget framework replaces the older Tiles system, though backward compatibility ensures these widgets render as full-screen tiles on devices running Wear OS 4 through 6. Safety features have also been bolstered: the Emergency Sharing tool now automatically alerts a pre-selected list of contacts alongside emergency services if the watch detects a fall, cardiac distress, or a vehicular impact.
