Connectivity Standards Alliance Debuts Matter 1.6 at Unify 2026
The Connectivity Standards Alliance opened its Unify event in Austin this week, marking a shift toward broader interoperability by unveiling Matter 1.6 and Product Security 1.1. The gathering signals a push to unify fragmented smart home ecosystems while formally welcoming ADT and Telink to the organization's board of directors.

The conference serves as a focal point for the industry to address the complexities of the Internet of Things, with a heavy emphasis on how open standards can bridge the gap between disparate devices and secure systems. By introducing Matter 1.6, the Alliance aims to improve context-aware device interaction and provide users with clearer visibility into the status of their connected hardware. Simultaneously, the rollout of Product Security 1.1 addresses the tightening regulatory landscape by extending certification coverage beyond individual gadgets to entire IoT infrastructures, including gateways and mobile applications.
The inclusion of ADT and Telink on the board of directors highlights the Alliance's effort to integrate established security expertise with silicon-level innovation. As the organization looks beyond residential smart homes, it is betting on the Aliro communication protocol to standardize mobile-based access control for commercial buildings. With over 900 members now participating, the Alliance is positioning its technical standards as the primary architecture for the next wave of autonomous, AI-integrated environments.
