Amazon slashes price on Echo Dot Max ahead of Prime Day
With Prime Day looming next week, Amazon has preemptively dropped the Echo Dot Max to $64.99, a $35 discount from its standard retail price. This reduction positions the speaker at a new historic low, undercutting current pricing at major retailers like Best Buy and Target by a significant margin.
Jennifer Pattison Tuohy, who reviewed the device for The Verge, identifies the Echo Dot Max as the premier choice in Amazon’s current speaker lineup. The hardware features a fabric-wrapped design housing a dedicated tweeter and woofer, providing a noticeable upgrade in bass response and audio clarity over previous iterations. Internally, the AZ3 Neural Edge processor improves voice command recognition, ensuring the device responds accurately even in noisy environments or from across a room.
Beyond audio performance, the unit functions as a central smart home hub. It maintains broad compatibility with Zigbee, Matter, and Thread protocols, allowing integration with third-party devices. Furthermore, the integration of Alexa Plus enables context-aware automation; users can execute multi-step commands—such as dimming lights, adjusting thermostats, and triggering appliances—in a single request rather than through sequential inputs.
