Valve Targets Summer Release for Steam Machine and Steam Frame

After a period of uncertainty fueled by global component shortages, Valve has confirmed a summer launch window for its Steam Machine gaming PC and Steam Frame VR headset. The company shared the news alongside details on its Verified program, aimed at ensuring library compatibility for the new hardware.

Valve originally targeted an early 2026 release for the hardware, but supply chain constraints forced a pivot in early 2026. While the Steam Controller debuted independently in May, the remaining devices saw their release timelines fluctuate throughout the spring. The company is now actively preparing developers by detailing the Verified badge system, which mirrors the standards established for the Steam Deck.

For the Steam Machine, which Valve claims is roughly six times more powerful than the Deck, the verification process will focus on titles that previously struggled with performance on the handheld. Meanwhile, the Steam Frame program distinguishes between native VR experiences and streamed content, marking games that perform optimally in standalone mode without user adjustment. Despite the narrowing of the release window, Valve has yet to disclose specific pricing or a hard launch date, leaving consumers wary of potential price hikes following recent adjustments to the Steam Deck’s cost.
