Former CathWorks chief Ramin Mousavi has been named Chairman of the Board at CardioMech AS, a move intended to accelerate the company’s development of its minimally invasive mitral valve repair technology. The appointment follows Mousavi’s leadership role during the recent acquisition of CathWorks by medical device giant Medtronic.

Mousavi brings extensive experience from the cardiovascular and structural heart sectors, having previously held senior positions at Edwards Lifesciences and Baxter International. His arrival comes as the Fridley, Minnesota-based company seeks to scale its transfemoral, transseptally delivered repair platform for patients suffering from degenerative mitral regurgitation.

Rick Nehm, President and CEO of CardioMech, stated that Mousavi’s track record in launching category-defining technologies will be central to the company’s mission. For his part, Mousavi highlighted the potential of CardioMech’s device to bridge the gap between the safety profile of mTEER and the clinical efficacy of traditional cardiac surgery. Medical experts, including Dr. Isaac George of Columbia University Medical Center, emphasize that the technology addresses a critical need for less-invasive interventions for younger patients who require effective, long-term solutions for valvular disease.
