Vision Marine Secures Patent Approval for Electric Powertrain Security
The United States Patent and Trademark Office has issued a Notice of Allowance to Vision Marine Technologies for its proprietary system designed to authenticate components within electric-vessel powertrains, marking a significant milestone in the company’s efforts to secure its high-voltage E-Motion™ platform through expanded intellectual property protections.
This administrative approval validates the company’s approach to securing complex marine propulsion systems, which integrate electric motors, battery arrays, power electronics, and vessel controls. By establishing a formal authentication process for these components, Vision Marine aims to insulate its integrated technology from unauthorized integration or replication within the competitive marine propulsion market.
CEO Alexandre Mongeon noted that the allowance bolsters the company’s broader strategy of building a protective barrier around its E-Motion™ ecosystem. According to Chief Technology Officer Daniel Rathe, the authentication mechanism is a critical technical layer for electronically controlled systems, ensuring that individual parts securely communicate within the vessel’s operating environment. The company continues to advance a wider portfolio of pending applications covering battery architecture, thermal management, and power distribution, as it seeks to scale its presence among boat manufacturers and retail service providers.
