Epilogue opens preorders for SN Operator cartridge dock

After months of teasing a specialized hardware expansion, Epilogue is finally opening preorders for its SN Operator tomorrow. The device functions as a USB bridge, allowing users to play and archive original Super Nintendo and Super Famicom cartridges directly on modern PCs, Macs, and handheld devices like the Steam Deck.

The SN Operator arrives as the successor to the company’s 2021 GB Operator, which focused on Game Boy and Game Boy Advance titles. Priced at $59.99, the new unit costs $10 more than its predecessor. Interested buyers can secure their orders starting at 12PM ET on December 30th, though hardware shipments are not expected to begin until April 2026.

Connectivity is handled via USB, syncing with Epilogue’s proprietary Playback application. While the software includes a built-in emulator for immediate gameplay, users maintain the flexibility to export their games and utilize third-party emulators. The system also bridges the gap for niche peripherals; games originally requiring the Super NES Mouse or the Super Scope can now be controlled using a standard computer mouse. Beyond simple emulation, the hardware serves as a preservation tool, allowing collectors to authenticate and back up aging cartridges that may be susceptible to data degradation.
