WooPlus Experiments With Live Speed-Dating to Counter Swipe Fatigue

Between March and June 2026, dating platform WooPlus launched Curvy Cupid, a moderated live video series designed to combat the exhaustion often linked to traditional swipe-based interfaces. By facilitating real-time connections, the company aims to move beyond static profiles to see if structured interaction can alleviate common dating app burnout.

Each session gathers 20 to 30 vetted members for a rapid-fire sequence of eight-minute video dates. Following these conversations, participants submit preference cards, with mutual matches confirmed within 24 hours. The initiative does not aim to replace the core app, but rather to serve as a testing ground for whether live engagement can provide a more meaningful alternative to standard digital matchmaking.

Jimmy Sun, Head of Marketing at WooPlus, noted that the team is treating the project as a hypothesis rather than a final solution, emphasizing that the current swipe-heavy model often proves insufficient for users. Early feedback from 100 pilot participants shows promise: 74% reported lower stress levels compared to traditional apps, while 68% felt live conversations revealed personality traits that profiles frequently mask. With 71% of men and 61% of women expressing interest in future video-based events, the company plans to expand its U.S. testing through the end of the year.
