8BitDo Updates Leverless Arcade Controller with Onboard Display

A small monochromatic screen now sits atop 8BitDo’s latest leverless arcade controller, allowing players to remap buttons, monitor battery life, and toggle lighting settings without relying on external software. This refinement to the company’s popular all-button design prioritizes speed and hardware-level customization for competitive setups.

The Arcade Controller Pro builds on the original leverless layout, which replaces traditional joysticks with buttons to sharpen precision and responsiveness. Beyond the new display, the hardware has been slimmed down to 16mm and now includes a fifth programmable button on the left flank. Users can still utilize the company’s Ultimate Software V2 app, but the onboard interface handles most essential adjustments independently. The unit is powered by a battery rated for 15 hours of operation via Bluetooth or 2.4GHz wireless connections.

Each input utilizes 8BitDo Core Green low-profile linear mechanical switches, co-developed with Kailh. These are hot-swappable, allowing players to tailor the tactile feel to their preference. To prevent accidental inputs during high-stakes matches, the company includes five flush-mounted lock caps that render the programmable buttons inoperable. While 8BitDo has yet to confirm pricing or a specific release date for the Pro model, it aims to improve upon the $89.99 baseline set by its predecessor.
